Introduction to CEH
The Community Empowerment Hub (CEH) is a Horn of Africa based non-profit organization that is deeply committed to transforming the lives of individuals and communities in the arid and semi-arid regions of Somalia and Kenya. Established in response to the growing crises and vulnerabilities facing these communities, CEH aims to create resilient and inclusive communities that can withstand the challenges posed by both man-made and natural crisis. CEH believes that empowerment, inclusivity, and long-lasting impact are critical to community development. By fostering partnerships, promoting accountability, and adhering to the highest standards of integrity, CEH is creating a future where no community is left behind, and all members have equal opportunities to thrive.
The Approach
The organization works on the principles of community-driven development, where the local population plays an active role in identifying their own needs, designing programs, and driving change. This ensures sustainability and strengthens the capacity of communities to be self-reliant in addressing their most pressing issues.
History and Background
CEH was founded in response to the urgent needs arising from the recurring droughts, conflicts, and marginalization
faced by communities in northern Kenya. This region, characterized by its harsh climatic conditions and limited access to basic services, has long been neglected in national development plans. Recognizing the need for a tailored, local approach, CEH was established by a group of development practitioners and humanitarian workers who had witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of crises in these regions. Over the years, the organization has continued to refine its approaches, learn from its experiences, and scale its impact to new areas and populations. Today, CEH works across multiple sectors, always with a commitment to placing the communities at the center of its work.
